Tickenham Church

Welcome to St. Quiricus & St. Julietta (Tickenham Church)

Set in the North Somerset village of Tickenham, St Quiricus & St Julietta has been serving the local community for nearly 1,000 years. Tickenham Church is a benefice with Christ Church, Nailsea and each month we offer a pattern of services and you are most welcome at any or all of them – full information can be found on our What’s On page.

Everyone is welcome at St Quiricus & St Julietta. During the summers months, we keep our doors open at the weekends for visitors.

We also have a programme of regular activities and frequent special events open to both regular worshippers and the wider community here in Tickenham.

Safeguarding

The parish of Tickenham is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Bath & Wells’ safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.

A  MESSAGE  FROM  OUR  RECTOR

Love Where You Live

It’s a lovely phrase, isn’t it? “Love where you live.” It sounds like a slogan you might see on a tote bag in the garden centre or painted on a wooden sign in a local café. I wonder what you love about the place where you live, whether it’s Nailsea, Tickenham or somewhere nearby.

Steve and I have been living in Nailsea for more than a year and have grown to love it. Whether it’s the choice of coffee shops (even Roo tries to stop at them all when we take her for a walk), the view across the causeway from Tickenham Village Hall, trips to the sea in Clevedon or the city in Bristol, there is much to love.

But what if loving where you live is more than enjoying it? What if it’s a call to get involved and care for the place and the people around you?

One of my favourite bible verses is Jeremiah 29:11 (For I know the plans I have for you…), but there is much richness in the whole chapter. Verse 7 says, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the place to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it.” Whether we like it or loathe it (the Israelites were being called to settle in exile in Babylon), God calls us to be rooted in the place where we live.

Loving where we live isn’t just about enjoying the scenery, coffee shops, or proximity to both sea and city. It’s about noticing people, showing up, and asking:

  • Who’s struggling?
  • Who’s missing from community life?
  • Where can I offer a quiet act of kindness or a prayer?

Jesus loved actual places—Galilee, Capernaum, Jerusalem. He didn’t float above reality. He walked roads, knew names, shared meals. As His Church, we’re called to do the same.

So, here’s a simple challenge for the weeks ahead: do one small thing to love where you live. Pick up any litter you see. Say hello to the person you pass by or see alone. Write a thank-you note. Lend a hand. If it’s your practice, pray for your neighbours. Invite someone to church.

Let’s be a people who say—not just with words, but with presence — “We love this place and we are here for good.”

Blessings, Nicki.

Upcoming Events

The last Friday of the month is Friday Night Light time when we light candles in the Chancel and play the busy choral music for you to enjoy. The atmosphere of our lovely Church provides the perfect setting and the music is the ideal background for relaxation and contemplation whilst you brush off the cares of the week and prepare for a relaxing weekend! We start at 6pm and continue until 7.30 but you are welcome to come and go as you wish.

OPPORTUNITIES  FOR  PRAYER

Prayer is at the root of everything we do. I’m sure many of you pray regularly at home and of course we pray in our services, but coming together specifically to pray is a way of being intentional in seeking God’s purpose and plans. There will be several opportunities to pray together over the Summer.

Pease do put the dates in your diary and make them a priority. You are welcome to join either session across the benefice.

If you are unsure what a prayer meeting looks like do chat with Nicki, but don’t worry that you will be expected to either site still for a full hour or pray out loud – neither of those will be the case.

July 17th: T 2.30pm; CC 7.30pm Focus on people, tasks and finances.

August 26th CC 2.30pm, T 7.30pm Prayer Walk real and/ or virtual.
